Horticultural Science Curriculum

Horticultural foods and food products, flowers and landscapes sustain and enrich our lives. Horticulture is the science and art concerned with the breeding, culture, production, marketing, and utilization of high–value intensively cultivated plants. Horticultural crops are diverse, including annual and perennial species, food, medicinal and ornamental crops, and plants grown outdoors and in controlled environments. The primary horticulture discipline areas include pomology (fruits), olericulture (vegetables), floriculture (ornamentals) and landscape horticulture.
Horticultural science class allow students to learn the science behind cultivating
garden and ornamental plants, including fruits, vegetables, flowers, and landscape and nursery crops.
Casalight school Horticultural teacher will focus on giving students the opportunity to use creativity to seek sustainable solutions in horticultural research to enhance health and quality of life. One of the basic tasks of horticultural science is learning to identify plants. The list of names is so extensive that some courses, such as Herbaceous Perennial and Annual Identification, are dedicated to it. Students may identify plants from photos, a computer database, or in the field. You’ll also learn the origins of each plant, how to grow it, and even how to pronounce its name.
